Wee Shoo Leong (b. 1958, Singapore) is known for his still life oil paintings of identifiable everyday objects such as birdcages, vases, earthen jars, flowers and fruits, set against blank backgrounds which give the works clarity and a sense of stillness and quietness. Being one to believe in harmonious existence, his paintings are executed with care and control, and speaks of balance, concord and peace. The objects that he paints, like vessels and wares, holds significance to him. Other subjects such as fruits and leaves are representational objects to his philosophy of simplicity and bliss. Wee graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1979. In 1984, he won the UOB Painting of the Year competition.
