Manjeet Shergill (b. 1966, Singapore) was among the first batch of art students to attend St Patrick's Arts Centre, now LASALLE College of the Arts, in Singapore. She began exhibiting her work in 1997. Manjeet's paintings have been exhibited in London, Berlin and Bangkok, as well as Singapore. Influenced by French post-Impressionism and Fauvism, she focuses on colour and lines to create simple images. Her subject matter varies but her paintings have delightful simplicity and visual impact. She constantly strives to convey the beauty of the human condition in its simplest clarity. Her paintings of monks use bright bold colour blocks, layered textures, elongated shapes and simple lines. With their eyes close, they exude an aura of calmness and tranquillity. Manjeet lives and works in Canada.
