Eight Folds to Contentment

Lin Dingxiang was President of Artdicted, 6th Exco. Eight Folds to Contentment was created for and exhibited in ‘Content: Navigating A Point' from 15 January to 12 February 2010, part of SMU Arts Festival 2010. The exhibition was curated by Audrey Wong and Khairuddin Hori, and is accompanied by a catalogue.

The work stems from Lin's interest in the Noble Eightfold Path in Buddhist philosophy, an individual's journey to contentment, and the craft of paper-cut. These two interests are combined through the search for an appropriate and resonant object-image: in this case, a book with a flower cut-out that hints at Buddhist teaching, which is often accessed by reading the scriptures.
