"This ‘悟' painting (pronounced as ‘wu', which means ‘enlightenment') was given to me by a Master when I visited a temple called 白马寺 (White Horse Temple) in China in 1987. The subtext of ‘坐禅面壁,参悟人生' asks one to seek his own quiet time, to reflect upon the learnings from life's episodes and be enlightened. I hope this gift to the student wellness centre will inspire generations of the SMU community to acquire and develop the critical skills to cope with life's pressures, because your well-being determines the well-being of our society not only for today, but also for tomorrow."
